Winfred G. Nelson, age 95, of Marshallville, GA passed away Thursday, February 12, 2009.

Funeral services were held at 2 PM. Monday, February 16,2009 at the First Baptist Church of Marshallville with Rev. Bill Tribble, Rev. Charles Carter and Rev. Nick Randall officiating. Interment followed in the Marshallville City Cemetery.

He was born on August 11, 1913 in Atlanta, GA to the late John Berry Nelson and Anna Elizabeth Bloodworth Nelson. He worked at Walker Oil Company as the Manager for many years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Marshallville where he served as deacon, treasurer and Sunday school teacher. He also served as a scout leader. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Will Underwood Nelson; one son, Roger Nelson and one great grandson, Eric Newberry.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Al Hammond of Macon, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Garland and Faye Nelson of Marshallville, GA; six grandchildren, Jay Newberry of Macon, GA, Lisa Gootee of Warner Robins, GA, Matt (Erin) Nelson of Sugar Hill, GA, Holly (Lee) Quinn of Powder Springs, GA, Chris (Tracy) Nelson of Savannah, GA, Bill (Amy) Nelson of Fort Valley, GA; two step grandchildren, Amanda Wilson and Pam Piazza both of Statesboro, GA; sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws, Ann and Jim Bissett of Jacksonville, FL, Herb and Addie Underwood of Fernandina Beach, FL and Eloise Thompson of Gainesville, FL and ten great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
