OGLETHORPE, GA - Mr. William B. Jones, 89, of Oglethorpe, GA, passed away Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at his home. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, January 21, 2016 at Watson-Mathews Funeral Home in Montezuma, GA. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, January 22, 2016 at Stillwater Chapel in Ideal, GA, with Revs. Roy and Jennie Peterson officiating. Burial will follow in Bertha Dozier Memorial Park.
Mr. Jones was born October 15, 1926 in Unadilla, GA, to the late Ernest Willie Jones and Mattie Lue Hudson Jones. He owned and operated Jones Grocery in Montezuma, GA, for fifty-four years, always putting his family and community first. Mr. Jones was a Mason and also served in the United States Navy and the Army National Guard. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Chambley Jones; his son and daughter-in-law, William David Jones and Mary Ruth Lashley Jones; and three brothers: W.C. "Dub" Jones, James Jones, and Jesse Jones.
Mr. Jones is survived by two grandsons: William Daniel (Melissa) Jones of Oglethorpe, GA, and Adam David Jones of Ft. Pierce, FL; a brother, Rufus (Nell) Jones of Oglethorpe, GA; a sister, Eloise Mygrant of Oglethorpe, GA; and eight great-grandchildren: Ayrianna Jones, David Jones, Evan Jones, Ethan Jones, Noah Jones, Jessie Jones, Ashley Rodgers, and Trevor Law.
