IDEAL. GA - Victor Lamar Smith, 77, of Macon and Ideal, Georgia, died Sunday May 31, 2020 at his home with family and loved ones.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, June 3, 2020 at 12:30 at Ideal City Cemetery.Visitation will be held at Watson-Mathews Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon on the day of the service.
Mr. Smith was born April 30, 1943 in Montezuma, Georgia to the late James Vallie and Dorothy F. Smith. Mr. Smith graduated from Montezuma High School and continued his education in Civil Engineering. He was the Area Engineer for the Department of Transportation in Macon for 39 years until his retirement.
After retirement, he worked as an engineering consultant for DJMA Joint Venture in Atlanta for five years. He then worked with Waters and Sons as a consultant for his last nine years of working.
Mr. Smith loved his Country and served in the Army Reserves with the 421st Quartermaster Airborne Division Unit for six years.
Mr. Smith served as the former President of Engineering Association for the Third District. He was also a member of the Cherry Blossom Beautification Committee with Carolyn Crayton in Macon and was a member of Ideal UMC for many years.
Mr. Smith loved his children, Sherri and Julie, his grandchildren, Amber and Ava, as well as his great grandson, Truitt. He loved motorcycles, boating, wood-working and watching Florida Gators football.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda of Ideal, Ga;
Daughters Sherri (Jeff) Joyner of Ellijay, GA; Julie (Buster) Wallace of Macon, GA.
Grandchildren: Amber (Dustin) Evans; Ava Wallace.
Great Grandchild: Truitt Evans.
Sister-in-Law: Joyce Layfield Smith
Nieces: Suzanne Bureek and Terry Niff
He was preceded in death by his brother, Dan Smith.
