OGLETHORPE, GA - Velma Bray, 84, of Oglethorpe, GA passed away Friday, March 21, 2014 at The Oaks Nursing and Personal Care Home.
Visitation will be held 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, March 23, 2014 at Watson-Mathews Funeral Home in Montezuma, GA.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m., Monday, March 24, 2014 at Oglethorpe Baptist Church in Oglethorpe, GA. Burial will follow in Oglethorpe Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Bray was born January 14, 1930 in Ashburn, GA to the late Leon Edward Richardson and Emma Louise Edwards Richardson. She was a loving mother to her three children and her grandchildren and loved gardening, cooking, and working puzzles. Mrs. Bray served as the City Clerk of Oglethorpe for many years and obtained her Georgia Municipal Clerk Certification and International Certification through The University of Georgia. She was preceded in death by her husband, James R. Bray, Sr. and a grandson, Jason Bray.
Mrs. Bray is survived by her children, Jimmy (Renay) Bray of Oglethorpe, GA, Eddie (Robin) Bray of Warner Robins, GA, and Jan Matson of Commerce, GA; a sister, Yvo Black of Dublin, GA; eight grandchildren, Corey Bridges, Eli Matson, Hannah Bray, Luke Bray, Jennifer Bray Timmons, Jessica Bray, and John Bray, and four great-grandchildren.
