OGLETHORPE, GA - Mr. T.J. Harris, age 86, of Oglethorpe, GA, passed away Saturday, March 28, 2015 at Phoebe-Sumter Medical Center in Americus, GA.
Visitation is scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at Watson-Mathews Funeral Home in Montezuma, GA. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at New Life Baptist Church in Oglethorpe, GA with Rev. Tim Ferguson and Rev. Ralph Price officiating the service. Burial will follow in Oglethorpe Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Harris was born February 13, 1929 in Macon County, GA to the late Lonnie Harris and Della Layfield Harris. He drove a school bus for many years and was the owner and operator of Harris' Service Station in Montezuma.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons: Ted Harris and Rickey Eugene Harris.
Mr. Harris is survived by his companion, Joann Cromer of Ellaville, GA; two children: Judy Short of Athens, GA, and Danny (Theresa) Harris of Oglethorpe, GA. He also leaves behind five grandchildren: Dana Harris of Austin, TX, Scot (Sadie) Harris of Tybee Island, GA, Kim (Brian) Felker of Athens, GA, Blayne Naufel of Kennesaw, GA, and Christy Short of Athens, GA; three great-grandchildren: Hartley Harris, Nikko Felker, and Dalvon Felker; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members.
