SMSgt.Thomas "Tom" James McKenzie, age 54, of Montezuma, GA passed away suddenly on Wednesday, February 10, 2010 in Las Vegas, NV.
Funeral services were held at 11 AM, Tuesday, Feb. 16, at Andersonville National Cemetery with full military honors rendered. The Rev. Ruth Tate officiated.
Tom was born on August 15, 1955 at Fort Belvoir, Virginia to the late William Hill McKenzie III and Ina Claire Langstaff McKenzie. He was NCO in charge of the photo section of the 116th air control wing at Robins Air Force Base. He was a member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Montezuma and St. Mary's Vestry. He was also a member of Montezuma's Historical Society, Flint River Keepers, Georgia Paddlers Association, The Southern Off-Road Bicycle Association and the City of Montezuma's Historic Preservation Commission.
Survivors include his brother and sister-in-law, Hal Corbett McKenzie and his wife Lynda of Macon, GA; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Adine McKenzie Moore of Baton Rouge, LA, Esther Ann McKenzie Hammond and her husband Steve of Montezuma, GA; 10 nieces and nephews, Quincy Hammond, Ben Moore, Haley McKenzie, Luke (Callie) Hammond, Michael Moore, McKelin McKenzie, Lynzie McKenzie, Meghan McKenzie, Katie Claire Moore and Alesia McKenzie. Several great nieces and nephews also survive. He is also survived by his beloved dogs, Boots and Mogus.
He is preceded in death by his brother, William Hill McKenzie IV
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 608 Rawls Street, Montezuma, GA 31063.
