Mr. Sidney George Smith, Sr., 85, of Oglethorpe, Georgia passed away Thursday, August 5, 2021at the Miona Geriatric & Dementia Center in Ideal, Georgia.
A graveside service will be held 2:00 PM, Sunday, August 8, 2021 at Oglethorpe Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Oglethorpe, Georgia. Rev. John Homer will be officiating.
The family will receive friends after the graveside service.
We encourage everyone attending the graveside service to wear a mask.
Mr. Smith will lie in state at the funeral home for viewing from 9 AM until 5 PM on Saturday, August 7th.
Mr. Smith was born in Talbotton, Georgia on June 9, 1936 to the late Anthony George Smith and Jessie Mae Jones Smith. He was tractor mechanic for many years. He was a member of Oglethorpe United Methodist Church, former Chief of Oglethorpe Fire Department and served on the Oglethorpe City Council. He loved fishing, hunting and spending time with his family. He served his country honorably during the Korean Conflict in the U.S. Army with the 101st Airborne.
He is survived by his two sons, Irvin Wayne Dunmon (Nelda) of Oglethorpe, Georgia and Sidney George Smith, Sr. (Dawn) of Talbotton, Georgia; Sister, Thelma Roberts of Birmingham, Alabama; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren also survive.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Florrie Felker Smith and a sister, Vicki Charlene Smith.
