Oglethorpe, GA- Mrs. Sara Coogle Gilmore, age 93, passed away Friday, September 6, 2013 at her home. Graveside services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Sunday, September 8, 2013 at Oglethorpe Memorial Gardens. No visitation is scheduled; the family may be contacted at her residence at 420 Baker St. in Oglethorpe, GA.
Mrs. Gilmore was born in Oglethorpe, Georgia on June 7, 1920 to the late Thomas Leslie Coogle and Laura Morgan Coogle. She was a member of Mt. Zion-St. Luke Lutheran Church in Oglethorpe; an avid gardener and traveler, having traveled to 49 of 50 states. She was Treasurer of the Oglethorpe Garden Club and a member of the Music Club, Daughters of the Confederacy, DAR, Wally Byrum Caravan Club and Living Loving Lutherans. Mrs. Gilmore was employed by the Macon County School System for over 30 years as a third grade teacher. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chesley Gilmore.
Mrs. Gilmore's survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Mack McCarty; her son, Alvin "Sonny" Raburn; a brother, George Herbert Coogle, and a sister-in-law, Annette Coogle; all of Oglethorpe, GA.She is also survived by four grandchildren and their spouses, Laura McCarty and Michael Goldsman of New York, NY; Lee and Ben Leathers of Milton, GA; Neal and Casey Raburn of Marietta, GA; and Lezlee and Dan Roach of Americus, GA; five great-grandchildren, Coleman Leathers, Bennett Leathers, Sara Mac Roach, William Chesley Goldsman, and Luke Raburn; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, and other family members.
Flowers will be accepted, and memorial donations may be made to Mt. Zion-St. Luke Lutheran Church, 401 Randolph St., Oglethorpe, GA 31068.
