Mrs. Sallie Ward Gottman, age 73, died Saturday, September 16, 2012, at her home in Statesboro, Georgia, under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. She was born in Louisville, Kentucky, to parents, Rev. C.G. and Irene Ward. Mrs. Gottman was raised in Montezuma, Georgia, where she graduated from Montezuma High School, and Mercer University, where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. She was employed for over 20 years with Rich's Department Store in Atlanta, Georgia. Upon retirement, she and her husband moved from Decatur, Georgia, to Statesboro. Mrs. Gottman was a member of Eastern Heights Baptist Church. She was married to Kenneth D. Gottman for 48 years, who preceded her in death on December 23, 2005.
Surviving are two children: son, Kenneth D. Gottman Jr. and his wife, Susan, of Woodbridge, Virginia; and daughter, Leslie G. Wiggins, and her husband, Joey, of Statesboro; three grandchildren, Allison L. Gottman of Woodbridge, Virginia, Grason M. Wiggins of Greenville, South Carolina, and Bradley A. Wiggins of Statesboro, Georgia; a brother and sister-in-law, Lloyd and Heidrun Gottman of Littleton, Colorado; a stepmother, Nanita G. Gottman of Roswell, Georgia; a stepsister, Martha Jane Mason, and her husband, Charlie, of Roswell, Georgia; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held Thursday, September 27, 2012, from 5-7 p.m. at Hodges-Moore Funeral Home.
A memorial service will be held Friday, September 28, 2012, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Hodges-Moore Funeral Home with Dr. Harry Sherrer officiating.
