VIENNA, GA - Rufus Alton Ray, age 88, of Campers Haven, Vienna, Ga, passed away Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at his home. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, May 15, 2015 at Watson-Mathews Funeral Home in Montezuma, Ga. Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, May 16, 2015 at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church in Lilly, Ga. Burial will follow in Prosperity Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Rupert, Ga.
Mr. Ray was born March 13, 1927 in Ellaville, Ga, to the late George Washington Ray and Katie Massey Ray. He resided in Marshallville, Ga for fifty-one years and was a farmer. Mr. Ray was also a veteran of the United States Army. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters: Iris Wilkes of Macon, Ga, and Margaret Collier of Oxford, Ga.
Mr. Ray is survived by his four children: Winfred (Donna) Ray of Arabi, Ga, Wallace (Anita) Ray of Eufaula, Al, Rebecca (Ernie) Foster of Vienna, Ga, and Jannace Smith of Cordele, Ga. He also leaves behind a brother, Billy (Lee) Ray of Tampa, Fl; twelve grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.
