OGLETHORPE, GA - Mr. Rufus Charles Jones, 91, of Oglethorpe, Georgia passed away Sunday, November 22, 2020, at his residence.
A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 25, 2020, at Still Water Chapel in Ideal, Georgia and Rev. Roy Peterson will officiate the service.The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Bertha Dozier Memorial Park in Montezuma, Georgia.
Mr. Rufus will lie in state for viewing at the funeral home on Tuesday, November 24, 2020, from 1:00 PM until 6:00 PM. The family will not be present. Wearing masks are required to enter the funeral home.
He was born on July 04, 1929, in Unadilla, Georgia to the late Ernest Jones and Mattie Lou Hudson Jones.Mr. Rufus served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy from 1947 -1951 and was a member of Still Water Chapel. He retired from Warner Robins AFB after thirty years of employment as a Flight Test Supervisor.His favorite past-times included fishing and working in his yard.He was also known as a skilled handyman, helping many neighbors and friends with needed home repairs.
His memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife of 65 years, Nell Dunmon Jones of Oglethorpe, Georgia; two children; Angela Denham (Steve) of Brierfield, Alabama and Evelyn Sellars of Montezuma, Georgia; a sister, Eloise Mygrant, Oglethorpe, Georgia. Known affectionately as "Gah" by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Mr. Rufus had a great love for them all and exemplified a true family man. Also surviving are three grandchildren: Stephanie Denham, Jonathan Duke (Monica), and Michael Duke (Sidney); nine great-grandchildren: Bianca Williams, Kaley Williams, Jonna Duke, Jesse Duke, Aubrey Duke, Aidan Duke, Emma Duke, Makynley Duke and Kyler Duke, along with many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Rufus is preceded in death by four brothers: William B. Jones, James Jones, W. C. Jones, and Jesse Jones.
