OGLETHORPE, GA - Mr. Robert Lee Payne, age 85 of Oglethorpe, GA passed away, Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at the Montezuma Health & Rehabilitation Center.
Graveside funeral services were held at 11 AM, Friday, Feb. 4, 2011 at Oglethorpe Memorial Gardens Cemetery with military honors presented. Rev. Mark Poole and Rev. Myke Harbuck officiated.
The family received friends immediately following the service at the cemetery.

Robert was born on February 12, 1925 in Barnesville, GA to the late Joe Presley Payne and Dossie Underwood Payne. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a member of Oglethorpe Baptist Church. He was a shop foreman and diesel mechanic for Rollins Leasing in Montezuma for many years. He was a former Macon County Deputy Sheriff and Assistant Chief of Montezuma Police Department.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Rosa Nell Peaster Payne of Oglethorpe, GA; daughter, Linda P. Chapman of Louisville, KY; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Beth Payne of Oglethorpe, GA; 7 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by ten brothers and sisters.
