A memorial graveside service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at Andersonville National Cemetery with Rev. Tommy McConnell officiating. Military honors were rendered.
Family and friends are asked to assemble at Watson-Mathews Funeral Home inMontezuma, GA at 1:00 p.m. the day of the service.
Mr. Markel was born September 1, 1948 in Romania to the late Robert Markel, Sr. and Elizabeth Muller Markel. After an honorable discharge from the United States Army, Mr. Markel enlisted in the United States Navy and retired as a Petty Officer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Warner Markel.
Mr. Markel is survived by his children, Denise (Jacob) Bryant of Oakwood, GA, Amie Markel of Warner Robins, GA and Lori Markel of Warner Robins, GA; two brothers, Richard (Theresa) Markel of Long Island, NY and Michael Markel of Pennsylvania; one sister, Annalise Markel of Pennsylvania; and a grandchild on the way, Noah Bryant. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members.
