IDEAL, GA - On Friday, September 02, 2011, Robert K. Honeycutt, age 74, was softly and gently called home. Awaiting his arrival are his parents, Willie & Ruby (nee Mckenzie) Honeycutt; brothers Billy, Richard and Pete; his beloved sister Hazel and her son, Ricky Riner; plus a host of other dear relatives and friends who also predeceased him. He is survived by two sisters, Opal Sutherland and Donna Ashurst.
Celebrating Bob's life are his wife, Cheryl; three much loved daughters, Sondra (Jeff) Engel, Teresa (Rudy) Duffy, Cassie (Ronnie) Johnson and their mother, Laura (nee Gonzalez) Honeycutt; and devoted nephew Richard (Carla) Crawford who was like a son. A proud grandpa, Bob leaves behind seven precious grandchildren; Patricia Flanders, Ashley Johnson, Chase Engel, Dru Duffy, Daniel (Brittany) Duffy, Alexis Engel, and Megan Johnson.Fourteen nieces and fourteen nephews are left to mark his life, as well as his father-in-law, Ben Williams; sister-in-law, Anita Duplantier; and doting aunt, Nellie Taylor.
Bob was born in 1937 at Auxier, Kentucky. He attended school in Auxier; Columbus, OH; Louisa, KY; and Camp Creek, TN. In 1955, he joined the Navy and served from 1955-1959 with the Hurricane Hunters in Brunswick, GA and Jacksonville, FL. Following an honorable discharge, Bob worked at various vocations before choosing a career of pipefitting. He was a proud member of UA Local 177 in Brunswick, GA. After his retirement, he was the proprietor of the Greasy Spoon Caf in Mayport, FL. In 1997, Bob exchanged the hustle and bustle of Jacksonville Beach, FL for the quiet solace of Macon County, Georgia. Over the next fourteen years he came to treasure his life - surrounded by loved ones in the woods of Payne's Bottom.
In keeping with his wishes, there will be no public services. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked others to support their favorite charity; remember the least among us; and practice unexpected good works.
