BYROMVILLE, GA - Richard Horace Elrod of Byromville, Georgia passed away at his home on Sunday, July 3, 2011.He was 92 years old.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Byromville United Methodist Church on Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at 3 p.m. with Dr. Jason Shirah and Rev. Creig Smith officiating.
Burial at Salem Cemetery in Bleckley County will be held prior to the church service.
Mr. Elrod was the son of the late Richard Carroll Elrod and Edith Page Elrod of Byromville.
He attended Middle Georgia College in Cochran where he met and later married the late Merle Perry of Cochran.He was a graduate of the University of Georgia.After teaching briefly in the public schools, he entered the army and served in World War II in the European theater during the Battle of the Bulge. He was an accountant for Ford Motor Company before joining the Internal Revenue Service with assignments in Atlanta, Georgia, Nashville Tennessee, and Jackson, Mississippi.
He was a member of the Byromville United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Men, and the church choir.For many years, he was a teacher of the Men's Sunday School Class and served as church treasurer.At the time of his death, he was serving as Finance Chairman. His hobbies were music, woodworking and gardening.
He was predeceased by his wife, Merle P. Elrod, an infant daughter, a son, Richard Horace Elrod, Jr., and brother, William C. Elrod.
He is survived by a nephew Cary Elrod, and neices Anne Lynn Elrod Galloway and Allison Elrod Miller.
