MONTEZUMA, GA - Mr. Rex McDonald, age 71, of Montezuma, GA passed away, Monday, November 27, 2017 at Pine Hill Nursing Home in Byromville, GA.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 30th at Watson-Mathews Funeral Home from 12:00 PM until 1:30 PM. Graveside services with military honors will follow at 2:00 PM in the Andersonville National Cemetery with Dr. Tony Caldwell officiating the service.
Mr. McDonald was born on October 12, 1946 in Sylvester, GA to the late Preston L. McDonald and Jewel Davis McDonald. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Kaye Butler McDonald, step daughter, Julie Anne Kiff, seven sisters and two brothers.
He owned and operated a lawn care service for many years in Montezuma. He proudly served his country in the United States Army on the front lines in the Vietnam War from 1968 – 1972, making the rank of Sergeant. He received several medals during his military career, including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Bronze Star Medal and Purple Heart Medal.
Survivors include his daughter, Amanda Cowherd of Buckhead, GA; son, Preston Carter of Woodstock, GA; three step sons, Jack Kiff of Montezuma, GA, Keith Dutcher of Americus, GA and Dale Dutcher of Americus, GA; brother, Wendell L. McDonald of Ocilla, GA; four step grandchildren, Kolbee Taylor, Sydney Kiff, Jackson Kiff and Kaeden Brown all of Montezuma, GA; one step great-granddaughter, Kaysen Petroski of Montezuma, GA. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
