Oscar S. Neylans, Jr., age 84, of Montezuma, Ga passed away Monday afternoon, August 24, 2009 at the Montezuma Health Care Center.
A Celebration of Life Memorial service was held at 4:00 PM Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at Cedar Valley Baptist Church in Montezuma, Ga with Rev. Michael Truitt officiating. Family received friends after the service. A private burial was held in Oak Grove Cemetery in Americus.
Born in Macon, Ga, he was the son of the late Oscar S. Neylans, Sr. and Catherine Elfe Neylans. In 1942 his parents received his Lanier High School Diploma in Absentia, because he was drafted before graduation on into World War II. He served in the United States Navy 23rd Construction Batallion Unit in Guam and Hawaii.
He graduated from Middle Georgia College, Mercer University and the University of Georgia. He was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity, Gamma Sigma Epsilon Chemical Fraternity and Phi Kappa Phi and Phi Sigma Biological Society. He was a member of International Food Technology Association and the Georgia Chemical Society Chapter. He was certified by the State of Georgia as a Class II Waste Water Specialist and Class III Well Water Operator. He was an active member of the Lions Club, 32nd Degree Mason and member of Cedar Valley Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Gwendolyn Neylans of Montezuma, Ga; two daughters, Nancy Neylans of St. Simons Island, Ga, Susan and Tony Johnson of Lafayette, La; sister, Catherine Elizabeth Neylans of Laurinburg, N.C.; brother, William E. Neylans of Keystone Heights, Fl; 6 grandchildren, Carlson Potts of Puyallup, Wa, Caroline Shem Tov (Omer) of Atlanta, Ga, Nathan Potts of St. Simons Island, Ga, Jason Johnson of Natchitoches, La, Jeremy Johnson of Lafayette, La, Jennifer Johnson of Lafayette, Laand 2 great grandchildren, Elisheva Shem Tov of Atlanta, Ga, Jonathan Shem Tov of Atlanta, Ga.
