Ophelia Mooney Howell, age 83, of Andersonville, GA passed away Thursday, September 17, 2009.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 AM. Monday, Sept. 21, at Andersonville United Methodist Church. Interment followed in Andersonville National Cemetery.
Born July 15, 1926 in Chattanooga, TN, she was the daughter of the late William Marion Mooney and Laura Manous Mooney. She was postmaster in Andersonville for 23 years and worked for Manhattan Shirt Company for 23 years. She was a member of Andersonville United Methodist Church and The Andersonville Guild. She also enjoyed sewing in her spare time. She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin O. Howell.
Survivors include her two daughters and their spouses, Jorene H. (Terry) Gordon of Holt, FL, Beth (Craig) Lowe of Reynolds, GA; 6 grandchildren and their spouses, Cindy L. (Charlie) Exum of Calais, ME, John B. (Melanie) Liles of Ellaville, GA, Kacey L. (Wade) Dixon of Reynolds, GA, Tiffany L. (Richard) Jones of Ellaville, GA, Holley G. (Shane) Abbott of DeFuniak Springs, FL and Jill Gordon of Miami, FL; 6 great grandchildren, Hannah Liles, Destiny Jones, Axl Jones, Keely Dixon, Tanner Abbott and Tinsley Abbott. A dear friend, Polly Lowe also survives.
