MONTEZUMA, GA - Mrs. Myra Knupp Rumph passed away Wednesday, November 13, 2013. She was 91 years old. The daughter of Reginald Knupp and Laura Mae Handwork, Mrs. Rumph was born February 7, 1922 in Atlanta, Georgia. She attended the University of Georgia and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she was co-founder of its Delta Delta Delta sorority chapter.
Mrs. Rumph was a member of the Montezuma United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years and was past president of both the Philathea Sunday School Class and the United Methodist Women. She was also past president of the McKenzie Memorial Ladies Golf Association and a member of the Macon County Historical Society.
Myra was always full of life and joy. She loved her family, friends, and Lord. We will miss her unique personality, charm, and wit.
Mrs. Rumph is survived by her two sons, David McKenzie Rumph, Jr. and his wife Patty of Montezuma, GA and Alan Harrison Rumph and his wife Cheryl of Macon, GA; five grandchildren, Sally Rumph Haugabook and her husband Steven of Watkinsville, GA; David McKenzie Rumph III and his wife Brady of Columbus, GA; James Harp Rumph of Atlanta, GA; Leslie Clare Rumph of Atlanta, GA; and Samuel McKenzie Rumph of Athens, GA. She was blessed with four great grandchildren, William Haugabook, Anne McKenzie Haugabook, David Rumph IV, and Carter Rumph, and several nieces and nephews.
Myra was preceded in death by her beloved husband, David McKenzie Rumph, sister, Francis K. Behm, and brother John C. Knupp.
A private graveside service for the family will be held at Felton Cemetery in Montezuma on Saturday, November 16, 2013, followed by a memorial service at the Montezuma United Methodist Church at 11:00 AM, with Rev. Billy Kimbrel and Dr. Tony Caldwell officiating. The family will receive friends following the memorial service.
