Mary Rasberry May

December 27, 1928 — November 3, 2009

Mary Rasberry May of Montezuma, GA passed from this life on November 3, 2009 at the Palmyra Medical Center in Albany, GA after more than three months of illness.

Visitation with family will be from 6PM to 8 PM on Thursday, Nov. 5 at Watson-Mathews Funeral Home in Montezuma.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, Nov. 6 at the First Baptist Church of Montezuma. Dr. Bobby Perry, Rev. Nancylee Cater and Dr. Randy Gregg will officiate. Interment will follow in Oglethorpe Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Jack May of Montezuma, GA; son, Tolen May of Douglasville, GA; one half-brother and sister-in-law, Ross and Edith Pope of Cumming, GA and several nieces and nephews. She will be lovingly missed by all.

Mary was born and reared in the rural community of "Cut Off" between Oglethorpe and Andersonville, GA and still owns the home she was born in. Mary graduated from Oglethorpe High School in 1945. She was the daughter of the late Lucile and Willie Rasberry and the loving wife of 59 years of Jack May. Together they reared two sons, one who is deceased, Jack Thomas May, Jr.

Mary's main purpose in life was the nurturing of her family, including her much loved Mother who lived in a cottage adjacent to their Moss Point, MS home for more than twenty years after Mary's father passed away. She was very active in the Gulf Coast Garden Club as was her elderly mother. Mary was active in the First Baptist Church in Moss Point where she taught Sunday School Class for many years. Mary's other passions were making and enjoying friends and aquiring, remodeling and decorating old homes.
