Martha Lorene Wood

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, January 23, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Ideal Baptist Church in Ideal, Georgia with Reverend Sidney Clay officiating.The family will receive friends before the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will immediately follow at the Oglethorpe Memorial Gardens in Oglethorpe, Georgia.
Mrs. Wood was born in Covington, TN on April 5, 1929 to the late Joseph Lytle Newman and Willie Adaline Beasley Newman.
Mrs. Wood is survived by her two sons:Michael Everett Wood (Donna Layfield -fianc) from Lake Wylie, SC and Phillip Wood (Laurie) from McDonough, GA; one daughter: Brenda Joyce Summerhill ( Jimmie) of Winter Park, FL; one brother: Jerry Newman from Ripley, TN, one sister: Janet Wynn of Covington, TN; seven grandchildren: Sonya Hosemann (John), Leslie Norman (Jay), Misty Hendricks, Mason Eric Wood, Heather Nicole Wood, Alicia Martin (Josh) and Ashley Wood; seven great-grandchildren: Hali Hosemann, Samuel Norman, Erin Hendricks, Logan Hendricks, Ashley Nicole Wood, Toby Martin and Avery Martin.She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Wood is preceded in death by her husband, James Everett Wood; five brothers: J. C. Newman of Covington, TN, Haywood Newman of Hernando, MS, Eugene Newman of Covington, TN, and Roger Newman of Covington, TN; three sisters: Helen Ford of Covington, TN, Frances Leleaux of Lake Charles, LA, and Sue Roden of Covington, TN.
