Marjorie Mccarty

Mrs. Marjorie Garner McCarty, age 99, passed away on December 19, 2024.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, December 23, at 11 am at Oglethorpe Memorial Gardens. Following the service will be a reception in the Lingle Room at Mt. Zion St.-Luke Lutheran Church.

Mrs. McCarty was born on February 8, 1925, to the late Bundy Lambert Garner and Mattie Lee Strickland Garner. She graduated from Oglethorpe High School where she excelled on the basketball team. She was employed for over 35 years by the Macon County Health Department. A person of strong faith, Mrs. McCarty was a devoted mother and a loving grandmother, Mama, to her five grandchildren. She was a beloved member of the Oglethorpe and Garden Valley communities for over 80 years.

Mrs. McCarty was preceded in death by her husband of over 40 years, Felton Smith McCarty and her daughter-in-law Nancy Archdeacon McCarty. Her survivors include her son and daughter-in-law Bundy and Betty McCarty of Milledgeville, GA; son Mack McCarty of Oglethorpe, GA; daughter and son-in-law Cheryl and Tom Jenkins of Raleigh, NC; her five grandchildren: Laura McCarty, Monique Acevedo, Lee Leathers, Tommy Jenkins, and Lezlee Roach; and her seven grandchildren: Wade, Cole, Miranda, Coleman, Bennett, Sara Mac, and William.

Flowers will be accepted and memorial donations may be made to Mt. Zion St.-Luke Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 187, Oglethorpe, GA, 31068.
