IDEAL, GA - Mr. Monroe Lester Jones, known to many as M. L., age 85, of Ideal, Georgia passed away Tuesday, November 17, 2020, at his residence.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, December 5, 2020 at the Macon County High School Football Stadium, Montezuma, GA. Rev. Tim Ferguson will officiate the service.
Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions, everyone who wishes to attend the services are required to wear a mask and maintain social distancing guidelines.
He was born in Macon County, Georgia in a small community called Garden Valley, on February 6, 1935, to the late Seaborn O. Jones and Beulah McCarty Jones. Mr. M. L. proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Pine Level United Methodist Church in Oglethorpe, Georgia, and was employed with Oglethorpe Hardware for over fourteen years.
A few words from Danny Blizzard: Mr. M. L. loved serving his community. He was the Football Public Address Announcer for some 47 years and was Baseball Public Address Announcer for 30 years. He was also the Official Score Keeper for Macon County Boys & Girls Basketball for 28 plus years and he would assist and did assist WMNZ 1050 Sports for the past 35 to 40 years.Mr. M.L. was a Community-oriented person and a True Friend to DB and WMNZ SPORTS.
His memory will forever be treasured by his two daughters: Diane Busbee of Oglethorpe, Georgia, and Marcia Ledtke also of Oglethorpe; a sister, Anne Johnson of Reynolds, Georgia; four grandchildren: Kelly Jones (Ashley) of Oglethorpe, Georgia, Kristi De La Rosa (Pete) of Augusta, Georgia, Stephen Hawkins (Jessica) and Mathew Hawkins of Simpsonville, S.C.; eight great-grandchildren: Chaz Jones, Jonna Jones, Jacob Griffin, Kylie Jones, Avery De La Rosa, Ansley Hawkins, Maddie Hawkins, and Zander Hawkins. Mr. M. L. was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Myrtice Kelly Jones, three sons-in-law: Greg Busbee, David Hawkins, and Michael Ledtke.
