Linda Cheek Beckum

Oglethorpe, GA - Mrs. Linda Cheek Beckum, age 68 of Oglethorpe, GA passed away, Friday, February 3, 2012.

Visitation will be from 6 - 8 PM, Saturday, Feb. 4, at Watson-Mathews Funeral Home in Montezuma. At other times, the family will be at the residence, 417 Keene Avenue in Oglethorpe, GA.

Funeral services will be held 4:30 PM, Sunday, Feb. 5, at Oglethorpe United Methodist Church with Rev. Robert Beckum and Rev. Lee Pettis officiating. Burial will immediately follow in Oglethorpe Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Mrs. Beckum was born on April 1, 1943 in Montezuma, GA to the late Myron and Myrna English Cheek.She was an English literature teacher in Macon and Houston County. She was a faithful member of Oglethorpe United Methodist Church, where she played the piano for many years. She was an accomplished writer and a member the Oglethorpe Garden Club.

Survivors include her loving husband, Gerald Beckum of Oglethorpe, GA, two daughters, Elizabeth Beckum of Oglethorpe, GA and Rebecca Beckum of Davidson, NC, sister, Kay McCraney and her husband, Dr. John McCraney, of Hollywood, MD, one brother, Dr. William Cheek and his wife, Cynthia, of Atlanta, GA, and several nieces and nephews.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Oglethorpe United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 427, Oglethorpe, GA 31068 or the American Cancer Society, c/o Joyce Liggin, 120 South Dooly Street, Montezuma, GA 31063.
