OGLETHORPE, GA - Leonard Thomas Avery, age 79, of Oglethorpe, GA, passed away Friday morning, October 17, 2014 at his home.
Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at Watson-Mathews Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m., on Sunday, October 19, 2014 in the Watson-Mathews Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Rev. Ralph Price. Burial will follow in Oglethorpe Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Avery was born September 26, 1935 in Andersonville, GA to the late Henry Clay Avery and Odessa Bowen Avery Collins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Varnum Avery, a sister, Ruth Faulk and a brother Billy Avery. He was a truck driver with Tampa Milk Company, retiring after many years of service.
Mr. Avery is survived by his four children, Mike (Peggy) Avery of Oglethorpe, GA, Cathy (Thomas) Cromer of Leesburg, GA, Melody (Dennis Bodrey) Turner of Oglethorpe, GA and Tommy (Cynthia) Avery of Oglethorpe, GA; two sisters, Bernice Felker of Oglethorpe, GA and Imogene (Billy) Law of Oglethorpe, GA; two brothers, Eugene Avery of Oglethorpe, GA and Charles (Mary) Avery of Americus, GA; two step sisters, Sandra Roland of Warner Robins, GA and Linda (George) Clark of Byron, GA; step brother, Wanzie (Laquita) Collins of Macon, GA; twelve grandchildren, Shauna Layfield, Brandi Benford, Ciji Cox, Vicki Teele, Bobby Avery, Brian Cromer, Les Cromer, Steven Simmons, Karlee Avery, Marcus Raper, Joseph Raper and Mathew Raper; eighteen great grandchildren and nine great great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
