Mr. Larry L. Simmons, 77, of Oglethorpe, Georgia passed away peacefully Wednesday, April 13, 2022, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Larry was born on Oct 8, 1944, to the late Elijah Simmons and Louise Perry Simmons. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Stanley Simmons. Larry worked for Blue Bird Corporation of Fort Valley for over 46 years. He was a member of Ideal Baptist Church for over 50 years and a deacon for over 30 years. Larry, also called Grandy by his grandchildren, took great delight spending time with his family and friends. Larry, in his spare time, enjoyed farming. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 15, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at Ideal Baptist Church with Rev. Sidney Clay officiating the service. The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 14, 2022 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Watson-Mathews Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Oglethorpe Memorial Gardens. His memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife of 38 years, Bonnie Jinks Simmons of Oglethorpe, Georgia; 5 children; Cynthia Avery and her husband Tommy of Oglethorpe, Georgia, Steven Simmons and his wife Cheryl of Bossier City, Louisiana, Ken Fowler and his wife Shelia of Perry, Georgia, Rodney Fowler and his wife Lauren of Statesboro, Georgia, and Brock Simmons and his wife Lindsey of Leesburg, Georgia; a sister, Lynda Rose “Cindy” Williams of Madison, Georgia. 19 grandchildren:, Marcus Raper, Joseph Raper and his wife Stephanie, Mathew Raper, Karlee Avery, Ciji Cox and her husband Michael, Vicki Teale and her husband Lance, Bobby Avery and his wife Stephanie, Andrew Fowler, Hannah Fowler, Hillary Fowler, Audrey Fowler, Reese Fowler, Floyd Simmons, Zack Simmons, Stephanie Anfinson and her husband Taylor, Bubba Bishop, Kayla Wright, Kinsley Wright and Mary Kathryn Wright; Also surviving are 22 great-grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews. Asked to serve as pallbearers are Zack Simmons, Marcus Raper, Joseph Raper, Mathew Raper, Andrew Fowler and Nicholas Brown. Asked to serve as honorary pallbearers are Clifford Jones, Charles Stafford, George Peavy, Billy Warren, David Keene, Jimmy Davis, Paul Pikiell and Stephen Hines.
