Mr. Joseph Douglas McNutt, Jr., age 57, of Oglethorpe, Georgia passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, January 16, 2022.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 22, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at Mt. Zion – St. Luke Lutheran Church in Oglethorpe with Pastor Barbara Koch officiating the service.Burial will follow at Oglethorpe Memorial Gardens. Friends and family will be received on Friday, January 21, 2022, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Watson-Mathews Funeral Home.
Born June 30, 1964, in Charleston, West Virginia, he was the son of Brenda Shields McNutt and the late Joseph D. McNutt, Sr.In 1987, he married his beloved wife, Joy McNutt, and they enjoyed a wonderful life of fun and adventure for 34 years. Joseph met his new best friend in 1993when they welcomed their only daughter, Hillary McNutt into the world.
Upon moving to Oglethorpe in 2018, he became a member of Mt. Zion – St. Luke Lutheran Church of Oglethorpe and was instrumental in the planning and completion of church renovations.He is a former City of Oglethorpe councilman and was a member of the Macon County Land Bank Committee.Joseph worked in the cable industry for more than 20 years and was presently employed at Avaya as an IT Director. In his spare time, you could find him riding his motorcycle through the backroads with his daughter and friends, camping with the love of his life, and traveling around town in his golf cart.
His memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife, Joy McNutt of Oglethorpe, Georgia, his only daughter, Hillary McNutt of Perry, Georgia, his mother Brenda Shields McNutt also of Perry, Georgia, and his sister-in-law, Candy Davis of Jacksonville, Florida.He is also survived by Pete (Sue) Shields, Eddie (Debbie) Shields, Lynne (John) Lecco, and Caroline Shelley.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph D McNutt, Sr.
