Mr. Johnny L. Dixon, age 75, of Americus, Georgia passed away Friday, September 2, 2022 at his residence. Johnny was formerly of Ideal, Georgia.
Visitation and viewing will be held Tuesday, September 6, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Watson-Mathews Funeral Home Chapel with the service starting at 6 PM. The family will honor Johnny’s wishes to be cremated after the service.
Johnny was born in Montezuma, Georgia on December 23, 1946 to the late Fredrick Murph Dixon and Doris Lucille Albritton Dixon. Johnny was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Lillian Street Dixon and two brothers, Fred Dixon and Gary Dixon.
Johnny was the lead singer in a rock & roll band, his brothers started over 50 years ago, called the “Missin Links”. Their band played backup with some of the greatest legends in Rock & Roll and R&B. One was American R&B, soul and gospel singer, Percy Sledge. He was best known for his number one hit song “When a Man Loves a Woman.”
Johnny is survived by his son, John Linkoln Dixon and his wife, Robyn of Greer, South Carolina; one sister, Lutricia Johnson of Americus, Georgia; three grandchildren, Noah Dixon, Chase Dixon and Lydia Dixon; and two sisters-in-law, Clarice Dixon of Warner Robins, Georgia and Linda Beard of Leslie, Georgia.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for memorial contributions to be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, Maryland, 21741.
