John Garlen Turner

Mr. John Garlen Turner, 73, of Oglethorpe, Georgia entered into rest on Friday, July 15, 2022. John was born December 21, 1948, in Montezuma, to the late J. L. Turner and Ellen Satterfield Turner. He proudly served his country as Staff Sergeant in the National Guard Army. He was retired from the Georgia Department of Transportation where he served as a Survey Party Chief and most recently worked for Macon County Emergency Management Agency. He was a faithful member of Ideal Baptist Church and a member of the Ideal Fire Department where he served as Chief for several years. He was an avid and active Amateur Radio Operator (Ham Radio). He had attained the highest level in ham radio, the Amateur Extra Class. His call sign was KI4BEO. He and his wife, Kay enjoyed bluegrass music and attended many bluegrass festivals. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, July 18, 2022, at Ideal Baptist Church with Rev. Sidney Clay officiating the service. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. just prior to the service. Burial will follow at Lockwood Cemetery in Ideal, Georgia. His memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife of 45 years, Kay Collier Turner of Oglethorpe, Georgia; two children: Amanda Turner Pankey (J.J.) of Valdosta, Georgia, and Kyle Turner of Americus, Georgia; a grandson, John Walker Pankey, a brother, Dennis Turner of Oglethorpe, Georgia, and a sister-in-law, Charlene Turner, also of Oglethorpe. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews and his fur babies: Gypsy, Patches, Callie, and Bozo. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Lynn Turner and Carroll Turner. Flowers will be accepted or donations in John’s memory may be made to Ideal Baptist Church, P.O. Box 150, Ideal, Georgia 31041.
