John Roosevelt Garner

January 29, 1933 — December 7, 2011

OGLETHORPE, GA - John R. Garner, age 78, of Oglethorpe, GA, passed away Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at Flint River Hospital in Montezuma, GA.

A memorial service will be held Monday, December 12, 2011 at 10 a.m. in the Watson-Mathews Funeral Home Chapel. A graveside service with military honors will follow at Andersonville National Cemetery. Rev. Tommy McConnell will officiate the service. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mr. Garner was born January 29, 1933 in Columbus, GA to the late Walter Garner and Loney Lofton Garner.He was a Corporal in the United States Army, where he served in the Korean War. He was self-employed and owned The Rack in Oglethorpe.

He is survived by two sons, Johnny Ray (Dottie) Garner of Westpoint, GA and Terry L. Garner of Columbus, GA and one daughter, Sandra Jean Mathews of Redmond, Oregon. Additional survivors include one nephew, Carl NeSmith of Dexter, GA, one niece, Peggy Taylor of Rentz, GA, eleven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.

Watson-Mathews Funeral Home in Montezuma is in charge of funeral arrangements.
