Mrs. Joan Richards Poss, age 100, Montezuma, GA passed away peacefully Sunday morning, January 15, 2023 at The Oaks Nursing and Personal Care Home in Marshallville, GA, where she celebrated her 100 th birthday party, September 4, 2022.
Mrs. Poss will lie in state at Watson-Mathews Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 18, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Diane Walker and Elaine Lanier will be present from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
Graveside services will be held Friday, January 20, 2023 at 11:30 AM at Park Hill Cemetery in Columbus, GA.
Mrs. Poss was born on September 4, 1922 in Essex, England to the late Elbert Harry Phillibrown and Ellis Katherine Lowing Phillibrown. Mrs. Poss was veteran of WWII. She served in the British Women’s Corp. She married an American GI, who was stationed in England. She came to America on the Queen Mary with 500 other war brides. She and her husband, Joe Banks Richards lived in Columbus, GA. Mrs. Poss became an American citizen and has live in America since WWII. She was a master seamstress and interior decorator for many years and later owned and operated her own business, Jo Nell Draperies. After her husband passed away, several years after his passing she was invited by a friend to go to the Shrine Club in Columbus and that’s where she met, Norris Poss. She later married Norris Poss in 1984 and they resided in Montezuma, GA. She became a faithful member of First Baptist Church Montezuma and attended the Edna Reid Sunday School Class.
Mrs. Poss is survived by her two nieces, Caroline Wood and Susan Moore of Essex, England and her good friends, Dianne Walker, Elaine Lanier, Cathy Mullis and John and Karen Coogle.
In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Poss wanted memorial contributions to be made to First Baptist Church Montezuma, P.O. Box 357, Montezuma, GA 31063.
