Jasper B. "J.B." Nelson, age 85,of Montezuma, GA passed away Tuesday evening, October 21, 2008 at the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM Thursday, Oct. 23 at Watson-Mathews Funeral Home in Montezuma.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Friday, Oct. 24, at the First Baptist Church of Montezuma with Dr. Randy Gregg and Rev. Earl Dunmon officiating. Burial will follow in the Bertha Dozier Memorial Park Cemetery in Montezuma.
He was born on March 31, 1923 in Macon County, GA to the late Tyler F. Nelson and Helen Bowling Nelson. He worked for many years at Saliba Farms in Byromville, GA. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Montezuma where he served as a deacon. He was a Mason and a member of the Macon County Lions Club. He loved his family and working in the yard. He is preceded in death by his three brothers, Wilbur Nelson, Fred Nelson and Lester "Sonny" Nelson and two sisters, Eunice Belcher and Claude Edwards.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Betty Irby Nelson of Montezuma, GA; three sons and daughters-in-law, Reese and Carole Nelson of Valdosta, GA, Randy and Wendy Nelson of Montezuma, GA, Wade and Joy Nelson of Montezuma, GA; seven grandchildren, Paul Nelson, Sarah Wells, Lesley Nelson, Ryan Nelson, Brittany Nelson, Jennifer Timmons, Jason Bray and six great grandchildren.
