Ideal, GA - James Everett Wood, age 94, of Ideal, GA passed away Saturday evening, March 27, 2010 at his residence.
Visitation will be Monday, March 29, from 6 PM to 8 PM at Watson-Mathews Funeral Home in Montezuma.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, March 30, at Ideal Baptist Church with Rev. Sidney Clay officiating. Interment will follow in Oglethorpe Memorial Gardens with military honors rendered.
Mr. Wood was born on September 17, 1915 in Thomas County, GA. He was a jet engine mechanic instructor in the U.S. Navy for 30 years, serving his country during WWII, the Korean Conflict and the Cuban Crisis. He was also a faithful member of Ideal Baptist Church.
Survivors include his loving wife, Martha Lorene Newman Wood of Ideal, GA; daughter, Brenda Joyce (Riley "Butch") Shamburger of McDonough, GA; two sons, Michael Everett Wood of Ideal, GA and Phil (Laurie) Wood of McDonough; three brothers, Malcolm Woodof Ideal, GA; Roy Wood of Milner, GA and Ralph Wood of Milledgeville, GA; sister, Lotice Bryant of Albany, GA; 7 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his brother, Joel Wood and sister, Clarice Newsome.
