James Augustus Smith

Dr. James Augustus Smith III, "Bubba", age 69 of Montgomery, Texas passed away on August 18, 2020. A graveside memorial service will be held Saturday, September 26, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at the Oglethorpe Memorial Gardens in Oglethorpe, Georgia.
Dr. Smith was born February 2, 1951 in Montezuma, Georgia to the late James Augustus Smith, Jr. and Mary Anne Brown Smith of Oglethorpe, Georgia.Dr Smith graduated from Macon County High School. He went on to obtain an Industrial Engineering degree from Georgia Tech.He later went to University of Georgia and studied Pharmacology and was accepted into the Kansas school of Osteopathic Medicine where he graduated in 1982. He did an internship in cardiology and surgery.Dr. Smith primarily worked as an emergency room/trauma center physician for many years, being awarded "Emergency Room Physician of the Year" before retiring. He most recently served as a Physician for a Hospice Agency in Huntsville, TX.He is survived by his wife, Dixie Lightfoot Smith, two sisters: Patrician Smith Trask (Jim) and Dannie Carol Smith Williams (Bill) of Montezuma, Georgia. Two nieces: Whitney Trask Crisp (John) of Americus, Georgia and Tracy Trask Monk (David) of Tifton, Georgia.Two nephews: Bill Williams (Kelly) and Dan Williams (Lynsey) both of Montezuma and a step-daughter, Jacqueline Quigley of Arlington, TX. Six great-nephews and three great-nieces.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mt. Zion St. Luke Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 187, Oglethorpe, Georgia 31068., or because of his love for animals – Sumter County Animal Shelter, 107 Tetner St., Americus, Georgia 1709.
