MONTEZUMA, GA - Mr. James Clyde Heldreth, age 70, of Montezuma, GA went home to be with his Lord on Monday, April 13, 2020 at Miona Geriatric & Dementia Center in Ideal, Georgia.
A private graveside service will be held on Thursday, April 16, 2020 at Montezuma Mennonite Church Cemetery and Pastor Donnie Swartzentruber will officiate.
Mr. Heldreth will lie in state at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 15th from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. for friends to view and sign the guest book.
He was born on August 23, 1949 in Fort Benning, Georgia to the late LTC. Charles H. Heldreth, Sr. and Doris Sanders Heldreth.He was a graduate of Nathan Bedford Forest High School in Jacksonville, Florida. During his career he was employed as a machinist for 22 years in Macon, Georgia at Rock-Tenn Corporation and later moved to Montezuma where he worked at Allen's for 12 years.
Mr. Heldreth was a member of the Montezuma Mennonite Church and he especially loved the children and always made sure to attend all their music programs and baptisms in support of their parents; He always seemed to have a little candy in his pockets to pass out to the children.He was a world traveler and an outdoorsman and during those travels visited Sweden, Denmark, Russia, Canada and Ireland.He was also an American Historian; traveling to various areas to learn about our Founding Fathers, Georgia History and loved passing this knowledge along to the children.
His memory will forever be treasured by his brothers: Nick Heldreth (Diane) of Melborne, Florida, Charles H. Heldreth, Jr. (Jessica) of Sandersville, Georgia and David Heldreth (Christine) of Montezuma, Georgia, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins throughout South Georgia.
No flowers, per the family's request.As an expression of sympathy, a memorial contribution may be sent to Montezuma Mennonite Church, 2307 Whitehouse Rd, Montezuma, Georgia 31063 or to a charity of your choice.
The family suggest, in remembrance of James, one might plant a tree.
