Jack Hardage

IDEAL, GA - Mr. Jack E. Hardage, age 80, of Ideal, GA passed away Saturday, December 3, 2016 at his home. The family will receive friends from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M., on Monday, December 5, 2016 at Watson-Mathews Funeral Home in Montezuma, GA. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at the Ideal United Methodist Church with Rev. Sidney Clay, Rev. John C. Homer and Rev. Robert McDaniel officiating the service. Burial will immediately follow the service in the Oglethorpe Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Hardage was born on December 16, 1935 in Oglethorpe, GA to the late Charlie Wolford Hardage and Ruth Estelle Simmons Hardage Rodgers. He was preceded in death by his brother, William Robert Hardage.

Mr. Hardage retired on January 31, 1991 after 25 years of service as a Game Warden with the Department of Natural Resources. He was named Ranger of the Year for the State of Georgia in 1971, for his vigilance and integrity, neat appearance and manner of dealing with people. He was also a private investigator for 10 years and worked with Flint Gas & Heating & Air in Montezuma.He was a faithful member of the Ideal United Methodist Church and a charter member of the Ideal Lions Club and was the only surviving charter member, having been a member over 50 years.He was retired from the Ideal Fire Department and served as Fire Chief for several years. Of the many hobbies he had, his most favorite was teaching his children and grandchildren to fish, hunt and to teach them to drive at the farm. Over the years, He and Kay traveled from state to state across the United States, taking many "Road Trips".Mr. Hardage served in the United States Air Force from 1954 to 1958 at Bitgurg Air Base in Germany as a Mechanical Engineer and obtained the Rank of Airman 2nd Class. From 1958 to 1962, he served in the Reserve.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Kay Robinson Hardage of Ideal, GA; three children, Jack "Gene" Hardage and his wife Nikki, Angela H. Lester (late husband, Frank), and John William Hardage and his wife Amy; a sister, Mary Ruth H. Averett; eight grandchildren, Elizabeth Lester Hobbs (Adam), Mary Lester Smith (Greg), Jack Conrad Hardage, Grace Erin Hardage, Hunter Luke Hardage, Sara Beth Hardage, Cody Allen Hardage and Jonathan Logan Hardage; one great grandchild, Tyler Frank Hobbs.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Ideal United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 157, Ideal, GA 31041.
