Iva Layfield Gentry

April 16, 1916 — July 20, 2008

Mrs. Iva L. Gentry, age 92, of Fort Valley, Georgia passed away Sunday, July 20, 2008 at her residence. A funeral service will be held at 11 AM, on Tuesday, July 22 at the Marshallville Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Carter and Pastor Jeff Jordan officiating. Burial will follow in the Marshallville City Cemetery.

She was born on April 16, 1916 in Macon County, GA to the late Edmond Layfield and Pearl Felker Layfield. She was a retired mechanic and aircraft hydraulic repairer for Warner Robins Air Force Base. She was a member of Marshallville Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, John Glenn Gentry; two sons, Franklin and Jewell Gentry; granddaughter, Gwen Harris.

Survivors include her two daughters, Lois Lawhorn of Perry, GA and Zelma (Cliff) Smisson of Fort Valley, GA; two sisters, Dorothy Stafford of Dawson, GA and Christine Griffin of Oglethorpe, GA and 9 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren.

Family will accept flowers or memorial contributions may be made to Marshallville Baptist Church.

Watson-Mathews Funeral Home in Montezuma, GA has charge of funeral arrangements.
