OGLETHORPE, GA - Mr. Hoyt Otis "Big O" Messer, 67, of Oglethorpe, Ga passed away Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at Heart of Georgia Hospice in Perry, Ga. Visitation is scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, February 7, 2013 at Watson-Mathews Funeral Home in Montezuma, Ga. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, February 8, 2013 in the chapel of Watson-Mathews Funeral Home with Rev. Sidney Jones and Rev. Sidney Clay officiating. Burial will follow in Ideal City Cemetery.
Mr. Messer was born June 9, 1945 in Atlanta, Georgia to the late Felton Hubert Messer and Georgia Lucille Ward Messer. He was self-employed as a truck driver for many years. He loved fishing, collecting trucks, and spending time with his family whom he loved dearly.
Mr. Messer is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Wessie Rogers Messer of Oglethorpe, Ga; his children, Sheri (Scotty) Jones of Garden Valley, Ga and Hoyt (Connie) Messer of Oglethorpe, Ga; a brother, Felton Hubert (Carol) Messer of Smyrna, Ga; five grandchildren, Gray Jones, Natalie (Rick) Rodgers, Erica (Scott) Watson, Katie Hammond and Stephanie Hammond . He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews and his beloved chihuahua, Lucy.
