Montezuma, GA - Helen Bartlett Peaster, age 89, of Montezuma, GA passed away Thursday night, Nov. 3, 2011 at the Flint River Hospital in Montezuma, GA.
A viewing will be held from 6-8 PM, Saturday, Nov. 5 at the Watson-Mathews Funeral Home in Montezuma. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Sunday, Nov. 6 at Cedar Valley Baptist Church in Montezuma. Rev. Mike Britt, Rev. Jennie Peterson and Rev. Gary O'Neal will be officiating the services. Burial will follow in Bertha Dozier Memorial Park Cemetery in Montezuma.
Mrs. Peaster was born August 28, 1922 in Taylor County, GA to the late Odell Chapman Bartlett and Chevie Lewis Bartlett. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Phil Travis Peaster; daughter, Cathy Peaster Hobbs; grandson, Clint Peaster; two brothers, Herman Ira Bartlett and Horace Bartlett. She worked for Montezuma Knitting Mill, ILC and Macon County High School lunchroom before retiring. She was the matriarch of the family and affectionately called "Nanny" by her sixteen grandchildren and thirty eight great grandchildren. She was a fine Christian woman who loved everyone and everyone loved her deeply. She touched lives with warmth and kindness. She moved mountains with patience and courage. She set the example of overcoming adversity, caring compassion, hard work, love, perserverance and was a role model for motherhood. She was an excellent cook and everyone looked forward to her family dinners.
Survivors include her five children, Travis (Erylene) Peaster of Marshallville, GA, David (Darlene) Peaster, Sr of Warner Robins, GA, Lonnie (Helen) Peaster of Montezuma, GA, Carol (Lamar) Melton of Oglethorpe, GA, Robert (Debbie) Peaster of Ideal, GA; best friend and sister-in-law, Kathleen Peaster Peavy of Montezuma, GA; 16 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews also survive.
