Hazel Herring Mims

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, June 19, 2014 in the Chapel of Watson-Mathews Funeral Home in Montezuma, GA with Rev. LaMon Brown and Rev. Mark Poole officiating. No visitation will be held.
Mrs. Mims was born March 2, 1921 in Pinehurst, GA to the late Charles Frances Herring and Annie Lee Boatwright Herring. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Montezuma, GA and managed the McConnell's Five & Dime for many years. Mrs. Mims loved watching her grandchildren play ball, listening to gospel music, playing the piano, sewing & crocheting, and fishing. She was preceded in death byher husband, J.D. Mims, six brothers and two sisters.
Mrs. Mims is survived by her children, Juliath "Dee" Gilmore of Montezuma, GA, Mary Ellen (Gene) Letterio of Orlando, FL, Linda M. (Mickey) Barfield of Montezuma, GA, and Nancy M. (George) Simpson of Oglethorpe, GA. She also leaves behind fourteen grandchildren, Patty (Brent) Smartt, Kimberly (Tony) Rossi, Shane (Debbie) Letterio, Niki (Denny) Voyles, Lisa (Rob) Yuknanavage, April Gilmore, Keith Gilmore, Scotty (Kelly) Layfield, Shelley (Tyler) Brady, Steven Layfield, Adam (Stacee) Simpson, Heidi (Steven) Hines, Haley (Jeremie) Radford, and James David "J.D."(Tammi) Childs. In addition, she leaves twenty-five great-grandchildren, Alexandria Smartt, Victoria Smartt, Tony Rossi, Jr., Alexis Rossi, Braden Voyles, Ashlyn Voyles, Brianna Letterio, Kayla Letterio, Ethan Morris, Jatie(Christopher) Schaver, Abigail Morris, Gretchen Gilmore, Hunter Layfield, Hailyn Layfield, Tanner Brady, Lane Brady, Ryann Brady, Taylor Simpson, Hannah Simpson, Caleb Simpson, Austin Hines, Emily Hines, Brighton Hines, Madelyn Childs, and Willow Childs.
