OGLETHORPE, GA - Mr. Harry Kelley Wood, age 89, of Oglethorpe, GA passed away Sunday, October 1, 2017 at the Montezuma Health & Rehabilitation Center in Montezuma, GA.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. until 3:00 P.M., Tuesday, October 3, 2017 in the Chapel of Watson-Mathews Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M., Tuesday, October 3, 2017 in the Chapel of Watson-Mathews Funeral Home. As per his wishes, cremation will follow the service.
Mr. Wood was born on December 9, 1927 in Clopton, Alabama to the late Lewis Wood and Katie Kelley Wood. He proudly served his country as a Quarter Master in the U.S. Merchants Marines during World War II. He worked as a Freight Agent with Norfolk Southern Railroad for over 40 years and was a member of Oglethorpe Baptist Church in Oglethorpe, GA.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Brown Wood; second wife, Joyce Lee Wood; son, John Andrew Wood; three siblings, Jean Law, Charles Wood and Rebecca Pinckney.
Survivors include his son, Michael Wood (Donna) of Eufaula, AL; three step-children, Harmon Head, Jr. (Jean) of Oglethorpe, GA, Mickey Head (Alicia) of Montezuma, GA and Sarah Frances "Chuck" Head of Oglethorpe, GA; sister, Catherine Sweigart of Warner Robins, GA; brother, Max Wood (Luann) of Montezuma, GA; two grandchildren, Brooke Wren (Chris) of Dothan, AL and Ashley Sleadd (Matt) of Columbus, GA; two great grandchildren, Drake Wren and Charlotte Sleadd.
