Elsie Peel Liggin

December 10, 1919 — February 22, 2009

Mrs. Elsie P. Liggin, age 89, better known as Mama Elsie, of Montezuma, GA passed away Sunday, February 22, 2009 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany.

Funeral services were held at 2 PM, Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at the First Baptist Church of Montezuma with Dr. Randy Gregg officiating. Intermentfollowed in Oak Grove Cemetery in Americus.

Serving as pallbearers were grandsons, Bud Liggin, Scott Liggin, Len Liggin, Lance Liggin, Eddie Liggin, Emory Parker and great grandsons, Myles Liggin and Tripp Parker.

The Edna Reid Sunday School Class served as honorary pallbearers.

She was born on December 10, 1919, in Sumter County, Georgia. She was one of sixteen children born to the late John W. and Bessie Dunbar Peel. She was married to the late Otto E. Liggin, Jr. They worked together at their grocery store, the Dixie Food Shop for approximately 50 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Edna Reid Sunday School Class of Montezuma for 72 years where she faithfully served as secretary of her class. She was a member of the Eastern Star, served with the Ladies' Hospital Auxiliary and served as a volunteer for the Montezuma American Red Cross Blood Drive.

Survivors include her three children, Otto E. (Buddy) Liggin III and his wife Joyce, G. Leonard Liggin and his wife Wanda all of Montezuma, GA, John Ed Liggin and his wife Willa of Slidell, Louisiana; one brother, Neon S. (Buck) Peel of Claxton, GA; also surviving are six grandchildren, five step grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and eight step great grandchildren.

The family requests that donations be made to the First Baptist Church of Montezuma, P.O. Box 357, Montezuma, GA 31063 or the local American Cancer Society, 120 South Dooly Street, Montezuma, GA 31063.
