Doris Layfield Miller

Mrs. Doris Miller, 100, of Montezuma, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at The Oaks Nursing Home in Marshallville, Georgia.

Born January 18,1922 in Ideal, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Elijah Layfield and Mattie Mae Hines Layfield.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 5, 2022, at Watson-Mathews Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at Watson-Mathews Funeral Home one hour prior to the service.  A private service will be held later at Bertha Dozier Memorial Park.

She was a faithful member of Stillwater Chapel in Ideal. She worked as a seamstress for many years at Forest Mills in Montezuma, Georgia and her hobbies included sewing and cooking. Her memory will forever be cherished as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Survivors include two grandchildren: William Thomas Bartlett and wife, Candis of Gray, Georgia, and Sandra Lynn Goodwin of Montezuma, Georgia; three siblings: Sammie Layfield of Ellaville, Georgia, Shirley Pollock of Cordele, Georgia, and Gloria Price and husband, Frank of Okeechobee, Florida; Also, surviving are five great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Gene Miller, first husband, Johnnie  Layfield, two children; James Ralph Layfield, Evie Bartlett, two sisters, Jeanette Kirksey and Frances Hobbs, two brothers; Herbert Layfield, H.L. Layfield, and son-in-law, Billy Bartlett.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Stillwater Chapel, 3550 Highway 240 West, Ideal, Georgia 31041.
