Doris E. Heldreth died Monday, Nov. 23, 2009 at Mattie Marshall Center at Magnolia Manor in Americus, Ga.

Visitation will be Sunday, Nov. 29 from 5 PM to 7 PM at Watson-Mathews Funeral Home in Montezuma.

A funeral service will be held at 11 AM, Monday, Nov. 30 at the Montezuma United Methodist Church. Graveside services will follow at 2 PM at Ft. Benning's Main Post Cemetery. The Rev. Nancylee Cater and Rev. Chip Grantham will officiate.

She was born January 12, 1924 in Bluffton, Georgia to Charles and Pearla Evans Sanders.Her husband Lt. Col. Charles Henry Heldreth, Sr. died in 2002.

She is survived by four loving sons, Nick (Diane) Heldreth of Melbourne, FL, Charles H. (Jessica) Heldreth, Jr. of Sandersville, GA, James C. Heldreth and David C. (Christine) Heldreth of Montezuma, GA.She has eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Her sister Neva (Carl) Chance lives in Dothan. AL.

As a young woman, Doris worked at the Willow Run Plant in Michigan making B-24' Bomber Airplanes during World War II.She was a devoted Officer's wife and traveled the world with her children to duty stations in Germany, Austria, Japan and all over the United States.Doris was a Charter Member of the American Rosie The Riviter Association and it's founding treasurer.The ARRA published Doris's story in their book "103 Rosie the Riviter Stories".

Memorial contributions may be made to Mattie Marshall Center at Magnolia Manor, Americus, GA, Montezuma United Methodist Church, and the Alzheimers Association.
