OGLETHORPE, GA - Dennis Wayne Hortman would want it known that he died as a result of being stubborn, refusing to go to the doctor and raising hell for more than five decades. He enjoyed family and friends and storytelling, but his most favorite pastime was baseball. In his younger days it was playing baseball,in his middle years, coaching and watching his two boys play baseball from young children through high school and in his latter days, watching and cheering for his Atlanta Braves. He was a stats person and could tell you the batting averages and ERA's of many professional players. As his cousin put it, Dennis was a free spirit, just a little dangerous to be around and a sweet old soul.
His parents, Wayne & Myrtle Hortman,preceded him in reaching heaven, and he joined them on December 6, 2016.He was 64 years old and leaves the following family to celebrate his homegoing:Two sons, Erik Duane Hortman (Mandy) and Joshua Cole (Susan) Hortman ; two beautiful granddaughters, Presleigh and Emberleigh Hortman and two precious grandsons, Walker and Wyatt Hortman; Four siblings, Joyce Hortman Hardy (John), Billy Hortman, Kathy Hortman Cazenave and Nicky Hortman (Michelle); Loving nieces and nephews, Casey Middlebrooks and son Kaliber, Nickolas Hortman & children, daughter, Ashlyn and son, Easton, Bradley Hortman, Jody Cazenave, Haley Hortman & son, Keller, Hunter (Mark) Chaffin;
