Mrs. Daisy Howard Gatewood, age 89, of Montezuma, Georgia, passed away March 15, 2022, at the Oaks Nursing Home in Marshallville, Georgia.
A memorial service will be held at Watson-Mathews Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 19, 2022.The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. prior to the service.
Mrs. Gatewood was born June 24, 1932, in Anderson, South Carolina to the late Ralph Strong Howard, Jr. and Amye Sloan Howard.She was a 1952 graduate of Converse College and attended the University of Georgia.She was a devoted wife, mother, and beloved Grandma Daisy. She was a true example of a Southern lady who loved cooking, entertaining, and spending time with her family. Daisy enjoyed playing golf and socializing with her many friends.She was a member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Montezuma, Georgia.
Mrs. Gatewood is survived by her two sons and their wives, Howard and Gwen Rumph of Montezuma, Georgia, and Stuart and Sharon Rumph of Marshallville, Georgia; two brothers, Jack Howard of Thomasville, Georgia, and Hoke Howard of Athens, Georgia. She also leaves behind five grandchildren: Jack Rumph, (Ginger) Molly Nobles (Brett), Winslow Rumph, Ryland Rumph, and Virginia Rumph; three great-grandchildren: Lily Rumph, Violet Rumph, and Ford Nobles; five step-children: James Gatewood, Crisp Gatewood, Tim Gatewood, Lee Gatewood, and Georgia Ledbetter; brother-in-law Furlow Gatewood, and special friend Jack Maffett.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gatewood was preceded in death by her first husband, Jack Harrison Rumph, second husband, James Hawkins Gatewood, and a brother, R. S. (Peb) Howard, III.
