Howard Rumph, age 70, of Montezuma and Saint Simons Island, passed away, Wednesday, February 26, 2025 doing what he loved; practicing his putting at the Brunswick Country Club.
Born January 24, 1955 in Albany, Georgia to the late Daisy Rumph Gatewood and the late Jack H. Rumph. He was a graduate of Auburn University and remained one of Auburn’s biggest sports fans. He farmed with his beloved cousin, David Rumph, for 29 years in Macon County. In 2007, he was named the County Executive Director of USDA Farm Service Agency. He remained with them until his retirement in 2022.
More fondly known as Hobby, making memories with his children and grandchildren was one of the things he cherished most in his life. Whether watching them in sporting events, taking them on golf cart adventures or teaching them to enjoy the beauty of nature, he treasured every minute. Those who knew him best would describe him as an uncomplicated, selfless man of God, with a kind servant’s heart.
He is survived by his wife, Gwen Rumph; his son, Jack Rumph (Ginger); his daughter, Molly Nobles (Brett); five grandchildren, Lily and Violet Rumph, Ford, Sloan, and Harper Nobles; one brother, Stuart Rumph.
A Celebration of Life for Hobby will be held Saturday, March 8, 2025, at 11:00 am at McKenzie Memorial Country Club in Montezuma, Georgia. Chip Grantham and Jason Comer will be officiating the celebration.
