Col. John Frank Baker, age 80 of Montezuma, GA passed away Friday, December 11, 2009 at the Flint River Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, December 14, 2009 at the Montezuma United Methodist Church with Rev. Nancylee Cater officiating. Mr. Baker will in state at the church one hour prior to the services. Interment will follow in Bertha Dozier Memorial Park Cemetery in Montezuma.

Visitation will be all day Sunday (Dec. 13, 2009) at the families residence, 316 Leon Avenue in Montezuma.

Mr. Baker was born March 29, 1929 in Leland, Mississippi to the late John George Baker and Nona Wilsey Baker. He lived in Montezuma for the past 27 years. He was a Colonel in the U.S. Army, serving in the Korea and Vietnam Wars. He served in Thailand as an advisor to the Thai Army. He received two bronze stars and several commendation medals. He served as President of the Montezuma Downtown Development Authority. He was a member of the Montezuma Kiwanis Club and an airplane pilot in his spare time. He was a member of the Montezuma United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his loving wife, Alice Flynt Baker of Montezuma, GA; brother and sister-in-law, William A. (Suzanne) Baker of Eustis, FL and close friend and caregiver, Kalandra Harris.

He is preceded in death by his two daughters, Susan Alice Baker and Betsy Elizabeth Baker.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Montezuma United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 159, Montezuma, GA 31063.
