Charles C. Haslam, Jr., 90, of Marshallville, Georgia, went to his heavenly reward on Wednesday, March 10, 2010.
He was the son of the late Charles C. Haslam, Sr. and Virginia Hatcher Haslam, of Marshallville, Georgia.
He was born in the family home on McCaskill Street in Marshallville, Georgia in 1919 and resided there his entire life. He was a member of the Marshallville Methodist Church, attended Marshallville High School (Class of 1938) and graduated from Mercer University in Macon, Georgia, where he became a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. Upon completing college he returned to his hometown to begin his life long career as a gentleman farmer, becoming one of Macon County's pioneer apple growers. Over the years he was a member of numerous organizations including the Georgia Farm Bureau, the American Camellia Society and the Marshallville Garden Club.
He is survived by his brother, Albert L. Haslam (Dorothy) of Milledgeville, GA; his nephew, Charles P. Haslam (Jeanne) of Milledgeville, GA; his nieces, Elizabeth A. Resch (Bob) of Evans, GA, and Virginia C. Treiber (Ben) of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and five great nephews and nieces, Savannah, Weatherly, Charleston, Amelia and Donovan Haslam.
The family will receive visitors at Watson-Mathews Funeral Home in Montezuma, Georgia on Friday, March 12 from 6 - 8 PM. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, March 13 at the Marshallville United Methodist Church followed by interment at Marshallville City Cemetery. Rev. George J. Masciarelli, Jr. will officiate and David Jones will give the eulogy.
