Charles "Charley" Cannon

Charley was born September 22, 1969 to Charles Marion Cannon, Sr. and Joan Cannon. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and loved by all who knew him. Charley was dedicated to serving his community and during those thirty-three years of service, he worked for the Montezuma Police Department, Fort Valley Police Department, Peach County Drug Task Force, Montezuma Drug and Gang Task Force and was promoted to Captain and Assistant Chief of the Montezuma Police Department. In 2016, he was elected Sheriff and served until the present.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Saturday, June 23, 2018 at the Macon County High School Gymnasium, 611 Vienna Rd., Montezuma, Georgia.Rev. Matt Johnson, Rev. Chet Ragsdale, Rev. Mark Poole and P. J. Hughes will officiate. Burial will follow at Ideal City Cemetery in Ideal, Georgia.Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, June 22, 2018 at Watson-Mathews Funeral Home.
His memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife of 28 years, Sherry Kirkland Cannon of Macon County;parents; Charles Marion Cannon Sr., and Joan Cannon of Montezuma, Georgia; one daughter ,Leslie Danielle "Dani" Bailey (Dylan) of Ellaville, Georgia; one son; Charles "Chas" Marion Cannon III (Hannah) of Americus, Georgia; two brothers: Jeff Connelly (Michelle) of Covington, Georgia, James Cannon (Angela) of Oglethorpe, Georgia and one sister, Sydney Hughes (Bobby) of Cartersville, Georgia.One grandchild, Emarie "Little Squirt" Joann Cannon, five nieces: Katie Hughes, Hailey Stewart (Preston), Carrie Connelly, Kelsi Cannon, Olivia Connelly; two nephews: P.J. Hughes (Haley), Aiden Hobbs and several cousins and many friends also survive.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association, 2451 Crystal Drive, Suite 900, Arlington, VA. 22202 or the Georgia Sheriff's Youth Home, Attn: Development Division, P.O. Box 1000, Stockbridge, Georgia 30281.
